Psychological research has shown that girls want to hear and feel the love of their father.  Girls want confirmation of father's love.  The mother cannot make up for this lack of validation.  The mother protects the child, the father gives them self-confidence.

The Holy Prophet (sws) used to respect his daughter so much that when Fatima Al-Zahra (ra) would walk away, the Beloved of Allah (sws) would get up, kiss her and greet her.  (Sir A'laam al-Nubla '127/2)

Once the Holy Prophet (sws) was feeling very hungry.  He visited the house of Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari.  They slaughtered a goat, cooked the meat and served it.  The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cut the meat from the thigh of a goat and said to Abu Ayyub Ansari: I do not know whether my daughter has eaten anything or not.

 (Sibal Al-Huda Wal Rashad 103/7)

Considering a daughter a burden, robbing her of her rights, depriving her of her inheritance and hurting her trust does not reflect Islamic society at all.  Alas, we have fallen in love with a Westernized society which, in spite of material progress, is deprived of the inevitable blessing of true love and kindness.
